Dr. Chris Martin
I am a native of Hays, NC. A small rural community in the beautiful North Carolina foothills.
I attended the University of North Carolina for both Dental School (DDS 1996), and undergrad (BS Dentistry 1993).
I have been in practice in our current location in Olde Raleigh Village since 1998. It has been a wonderful practice home.
I enjoy the practice of dentistry immensely. Dentistry is challenging at times, but provides a true sense of accomplishment. I have always enjoyed ‘working with my hands’ and ‘working with people’. Dentistry allows me to do both of these daily. I feel lucky to have chosen this life path.
I am happily married to Maja Vukojicic Martin (since 1999). We have three beautiful children, Ava Marie (born September 2006), Ella Rae (born October 2008), and Noah Christopher, (born December 18, 2009).
I also truly enjoy learning from others, being with my family, music, fitness and vintage volkswagens.
Thanks for your interest in our practice. I look forward to meeting you.
Dr. Martin has received the Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and received Mastership in the AGD in June, 2018.
Dr. Monica Wheeler
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. At a young age I discovered the art and science of dentistry through numerous summer science programs, and fell in love with it.
I graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2006 with a degree in Biology, and from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tennessee in 2011. In 2012 I completed a General Practice Residency Program at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey, where I received advanced training and mentorship in various fields of dentistry.
I practiced dentistry in Nashville/Brentwood, Tennessee for a few years, after completing my residency, and moved to North Carolina in 2014.
I love the field of dentistry; I believe that it encompasses being a doctor, artist, and engineer all in one, while it allows me the chance to help others achieve improvements that will affect their overall health and confidence.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, reading, bike riding and community outreach programs with the local chapter of my sorority.
It is truly a privilege to be a member of such a highly trained team here at Village Dental. I am excited to meet you and would love to help you achieve a healthy mouth for life. See you soon!
Dr. Sara Valencia
Hey, I’m Dr. Sara Valencia! I was born in Wisconsin (though I have zero recollection of it) and spent my early childhood in Texas, but pretty much grew up in the Cary/Raleigh area attending high school not far from here. After high school, I attended North Carolina State completing a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Spanish. Unsure of what I wanted to do career-wise, I moved to Santiago, Dominican Republic where I was able to fine-tune my Spanish and work for a year. Upon returning to the States, I started working in dental research, which exposed me to dentistry as a career working alongside the residents on their research projects. After realizing I wanted a career allowing me to work with my hands but also be involved in the medical field helping people, dentistry was a great opportunity. I then attended UNC Chapel Hill and received my DDS degree there. With a desire to continue learning and challenging myself, I participated in the UNC Hospital General Practice Residency program. I have since worked in public health and private practice seeing patients of all ages.
Being a dentist allows me to work with my hands and meet new people every day. I really love the artistry of fixing teeth! As someone who wasn’t born with a perfect smile I can relate to many of my patients and their desire to improve their smiles.
In my spare time, you can find me with my amazing husband, Miguel, and two children, Sam and Amelia, exploring parks and craft breweries. When not running after my kids, I enjoy cooking and trying out new restaurants.
I’m so excited to join the Village Dental family and am looking forward to meeting you!
Dr. Ray Anderson
I am a native North Carolinian, born and raised in the small town of Weldon, N.C., located in the North Eastern part of the state. The Triangle, however, has been my home for quite some time now as I moved here to attend high school at The North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham, where I met bright peers from across the state – many of whom remain some of my closest friends today.
I am a Tar Heel through and through, having earned both my undergraduate and dental degrees from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was also at Chapel Hill as an undergraduate where I met my amazing wife, who has been very supportive throughout my journey into the dental profession.
Dentistry has offered a pathway to many unique life experiences for me. While in dental school I had the opportunity to travel to Malawi, Africa on a mission trip to provide oral health care for those in need. This experience deepened my appreciation for dentistry and opened my eyes to all the wonderful aspects of the profession.
After graduating from dental school I spent two years working in Asheboro, N.C., where I had the opportunity to work with both adult and pediatric patients. One of my greatest joys comes from providing positive dental experiences for patients whom may have previously experienced uneasiness surrounding dental care. I consider myself an avid, lifelong learner and enjoy stargazing, traveling, biking, and playing ping pong for fun. I am excited to be part of the Village Dental team, and I look forward to partnering with you to meet your dental needs.
Hi! My name is Shannon. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this amazing team since 2008. A little about me…I was born and raised in Thomasville, NC, but call Durham, NC home. After obtaining my Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from Guilford Technical Community College in Greensboro, I attended UNC-Chapel Hill to further my Dental Hygiene education. I love everything about the field of dentistry, but I would have to say my favorite part is patient interaction and education. In 2013, I became the Front Desk Team Leader at our Olde Raleigh location and haven’t looked back. I have enjoyed the administrative side of dentistry and look forward to helping you with both clinical and administrative questions. When I’m not at work, making smiles brighter, I enjoy traveling with my husband, Ryan, spending time with friends and family, spoiling our fur babies, LuLu, Zoe and Rosebud and love trying new restaurants in the area. If there is ever anything I can do to make your dental experience better, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you very soon!
Hygiene Team Lead
Hi! I’m Destiny and I am excited to be a part of the Village Dental team. I recently moved to Clayton, NC from New Jersey, but my roots started in Atlanta. I attended Penn State for my bachelors in Dental Hygiene, with a focus on Health Policy and Administration. I hope to attend graduate school in the near future to complete an MBA program.
When not spreading smiles through treatment or education, I love spending time with my husband, our son and two dogs. We hope to start fostering more animals soon, which is what started our journey south. We also love game nights, working out and laughing at ourselves.
I can’t wait to meet you!
Clinical Team Lead
Hi! My name is Trina and I’m originally from a small town in eastern North Carolina called Fremont. I moved to Raleigh five years ago and I now live in Knightdale with my husband and our two dogs. I also have a horse that’s still back home that I enjoy riding. I’m a huge sports fan and love hunting and shooting guns with my husband.
I went to school to be a dental assistant after I move to Raleigh and have been working in the dental field for the past three years. I love my job and enjoy being a part of the Village Dental team. Hope to see you soon!
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania where I began my 22 year career in EMS. I relocated to North Carolina in 1998 with my now wife, Katie Wagner, to start a family and continue our careers in the medical field.
For the past 16 years I have worked as a Paramedic in Durham. While there I have had the opportunity to train students and new employees in the field as well as be a part of several field studies associated with Duke and some of the top medical device manufacturers to improve critical care of patients.
Recently I have joined the Village Dental team to assist with IV sedation dentistry. I look forward to ensuring a safe and relaxed experience here at Village Dental.
