February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

February 5, 2014
This is a great month to create awareness about oral hygiene and the huge role it plays for the little ones. We want to work with all you parents to help educate the children sooner rather than later on the importance of regular brushing and flossing routines along with a healthy diet that limits sugar. What affects children’s’ teeth the most is simple tooth decay, and it is completely preventable if the right steps are taken. Did you know that more than 40 percent of children ages 2 to 11 have had a cavity in their baby teeth? That number jumps to more than two-thirds of 16 to 19 year olds with cavities in permanent teeth. To avoid fillings, crowns, or worse (root canals) emphasize brushing! Here’s a good general rule to help them remember and it starts with the number 2:
- Brush 2 times a day (after breakfast and just before bedtime)
- Brush for 2 minutes at a time
Try a toothbrush-time song! Play 2 minutes of a favorite song, with the first minute for the top teeth and 2nd minute for the bottom. You can also buy fun toothbrushes that light up for the right amount of time. (Firefly toothbrushes flash for 60 seconds at a time.)

New Year, New Smile!

A smile is often a reflection of one’s personality. A person with a great smile tends to have a great personality, whereas a person with a hidden smile, well… you get the idea.

Let Village Dental help you reveal your personality with a smile makeover, and get a galloping start to 2014! (Yes, that’s a Year of the Horse reference.) Cosmetic dentistry at Village Dental spans the gamut of procedures from inexpensive teeth whitening to dazzling porcelain veneers. Our Raleigh, North Carolina locations enable our cosmetic dentists to perform state-of-the-art dentistry using the most advanced dental care techniques and technology available.

Are you afraid of the dentist? Don’t be — Village Dental can provide you with sedation dentistry. You can come in, kick back and relax — we’ll wake you when it’s over!

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

At Village Dental, we believe that a healthy mouth leads to a healthy body. We try to educate our patients on the value of proper oral care and how it can help you stay healthy in other areas of your life. Improper oral care can lead to gum disease and gingivitis, which in turn can contribute to Diabetes. And on the other hand, Diabetes can make it more difficult to control gum disease due to a longer healing process and lower resistance. Treating your gum disease can actually help with keeping your blood sugar low, as well as fighting off infections that can lead to loosening or the loss of your teeth. Halloween Candy Buyback, part of Operation Gratitude, Supports the Troops

25 October 2013 – It’s OK to eat candy! Just not much of it! Make a deal with your kids: Set a certain number of allowed pieces of candy for consumption. This allows them to have their fun, have a little candy, and a good way to teach moderation. After those have been counted out, grab the rest, bring it to Village Dental, and we’ll buy it back from you! It’s part of our Candy Buyback to support the troops! Hope Everyone has a Happy Halloween and remember to brush right after eating! No cavities this year!!

Teeth that Shine Bright and White

20 September 2013 – Do you ever look in the mirror and wish your teeth were just a little whiter? If that describes Cosmetic Dentistryyou, then you’re one of the millions of Americans looking for ways to get that smile a little brighter. Brushing and flossing are necessary for oral health, but as time goes on between cleanings, food and drink wear on our enamel. As this happens, teeth tend to lose that brilliant color we all like to see. Many patients have turned to having their dentist whiten their teeth, or purchased one of a variety of take-home whitening kits at local stores. While we do suggest that you leave whitening to professionals, if you do choose to take the at-home route, you should take certain precautions. You can do damage your teeth and gums if you’re not careful. Before you try any home remedies or buy a teeth whitening product, give us a call so we can talk about what the best solution is for you and your unique dental situation.

Trust us! It’s our goal to have your teeth as bright and white as possible, we want everyone to be jealous of that smile!

Sedation Dentistry at Village Dental

17 August 2013 – Are you like one of the 30 million Americans who are apprehensive about visiting the dentist? You’re not alone and Village Dental recognizes these fears and is happy to offer sedation dentistry at both Greystone and Olde Raleigh locations. There are three forms of sedation available:

Oral Conscious Sedation – This is administered to relive anxious feelings about visiting the dentist. This is given to patients in a pill form for them to take prior to their appointment. With oral sedation, patients may not drive so accommodations will need to be made.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation – This is commonly known as “laughing gas,” and is administered at the office prior to the procedure. This is the most common form of sedation.

I.V. Sedation – This is given to the most apprehensive patients.  Patients are in a deep state of relaxation during their procedure. I.V. sedation is a great option for anxious patients and for patients that need multiple years worth of work completed.

Village Dental is certified in all levels of sedation and is a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation.
